Rachel Firman, PMHNP

Rachel’s passion for the treatment of psychiatric illness is evident with each patient encounter. She is kind, warm, and always strives to make her patients feel comfortable and at ease. She understands the angst associated with beginning psychiatric treatment and works to alleviate any discomfort the patient may feel. She believes in the strength of her patients’ ability to recover even when their present suffering serves to limit their insight into that recovery. She will work diligently alongside you to bring about symptom relief through the establishment of a proper medication regimen. She understands that no two patients are alike, and that prescription treatment is not one size fits all. She sincerely listens to her patients' concerns and believes that together they can achieve symptom relief/management. She is trained to treat patients across the life span and sees patients ranging from childhood to geriatrics. She is well versed in the treatment of all Anxiety Disorders, Panic Disorder, Major Depressive Disorder, Bipolar Disorder, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, and PTSD. Rachel recently moved to the Virginia Beach/Chesapeake area from Knoxville, TN with her husband, son, and their beloved rescue cat. She is a graduate of East Tennessee State University where she earned a Master of Science in Nursing and is board certificated by the American Nurses Credentialing Center as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner.  During her time at ETSU, Rachel earned the honor of being inducted into Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society and is a member of Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society. While she grew up close to the Great Smoky Mountains, she is thrilled to now call Virginia her home. She spends her free time reading, traveling with her husband, visiting their son at college and going to the beach.
